Most people don’t have any trouble starting things. Do you have a long list of things you want to do, places you want to go and goals that you want to achieve? Chances are you spend a lot of time dreaming about the future. Dreaming about where you’d like to live and vacations you want to take; dreaming about spending more time with friends and family.

You would probably argue that you have plenty of motivation. My experience has been that most people are not very good at relating their big dreams and motivations to their short term goals. Let’s use an MLM Training course as an example. You have just signed up for a new MLM Training program. This MLM Training program was recommended to you by a friend of yours who has made a lot of money with their MLM business. You want desperately to make enough money to quit your boring factory job and move your family to a new house in a nicer part of town so you launch yourself into your new MLM Training courses with gusto.

Two weeks later, you have watched countless hours of MLM Training videos. Everything seems so hard. You are sure that this MLM Training course is a good one since it covers everything you ever wanted to know about network marketing and building a home based business but it just seems like so much work. You were hoping for a nice easy life working from home, not this. At this point most people give up and move on to something else. Why? Believe it or not humans are built to work hard. We have had to work hard for most of our species’ existence just to survive. It’s only fairly recently that surviving has become so easy that we start to lose our work ethic a little.

The issue is mostly that it is getting harder and harder to directly related our task or work with the reward. Taking an MLM Training course is a great example of this. There is no reward for completing the MLM Training courses; you still need to apply what you have learned. And even then you are still one step removed from your ultimate reward since applying what you have learned in the MLM Training will only make you money and what you are really after are the things that money can buy such as food or shelter or recreation.

The best way to solve this motivational dilemma is to break up your big goals into smaller pieces. Let’s say your goal is to generate a full time income from your MLM business. You know that you need to enroll 200 new distributors to achieve this goal. Your goal then is not to enroll 200 people. Your goal is to enroll 1 person. Instead of trying to motivate yourself to work through the entire MLM Training program, implement all of the ideas and enroll 200 people, why not try to implement one portion of the training material and enroll one person.

Set a bunch of smaller goals for yourself and assign small rewards to go along with them. This will make it much easier to stay motivated and keep focused on a daily and weekly basis. Make your goals something that can be achieved in a few days or a week. The small successes will quickly propel you to greater heights.
