Why the MLM Marketing System Your Upline is Teaching You is Likely to Backfire

So you’ve decided to try and give an MLM (multi-level marketing or networking) business a try. You want your own business. You want to be making that great “passive income” that being in an MLM business promises. What kind of marketing system are you using to achieve your goals and make a great income?
If you are like most people who get involved in an MLM business, you looked to your upline to teach you the MLM marketing system that they are using to succeed. I mean, why reinvent the wheel, right? If they are successful, then the marketing system they are teaching you must work.
Not only that, but isn’t the big benefit of getting involved in an MLM business that everyone will help you succeed, because when one person does well everyone else also profits? That’s what I was told when I got involved in my first MLM business.
What is the MLM marketing system that your upline taught you? I bet I can guess one of the key components: Chase your “warm market” list, and show them how great of a business opportunity the company is.
They tell you to aggressively go out there, handing people flyers and business cards and sharing samples of the product. They tell you that the MLM marketing system that works best is to sell the “easy money making” aspect of the product and the company.
While I have no doubt that you can sign up some people using this method — and even make a little money the process — there is one major flaw in this MLM marketing system, and it is the reason why approximately 94% of MLM business owners fail. It’s not the MLM businesses, their compensation structures or the quality of their products that causes this HUGE failure percentage.
It’s the marketing system that people are being taught and, really, the fact that people are being taught a lie about how to build a productive, long-lasting and PROFITABLE downline. So here’s why chasing your warm market and trying to sell the business opportunity to them will backfire on you every time.
Let’s assume that you are able to sign people up into your downline using the MLM marketing strategies that most people are taught by their upline. The chance of keeping them as part of the business is exceptionally low. You will have a horrible retention rate.
Having constant and really high turnover rates is not an MLM marketing strategy you want to follow. Plus, if you are relying on your “warm market” as your sole pool of prospects, you will run out of prospects pretty darn fast if you have a constant turnover. Why the MLM Marketing System Your Upline is Teaching You is Likely to Backfire
People want solutions to their problems and they want to be involved in great opportunities, but they don’t want to feel like they’re being given a “hard sell.” The way to get great, long-lasting prospects into your business — and the ultimate MLM marketing strategy — is to stop chasing people and start making people want to find YOU.
So while your upline I’m sure wants you to succeed, telling you to bombard friends, family and co-workers with a hard sell on the great business opportunity your MLM business is will always backfire on you in the long run. There are much better MLM marketing strategies that not only will make you a LOT more money, but will forever relieve you of having to chase people. A clear win-win!
